FORMER COUNCILLOR’S SON CO-OPTED ONTO MONAGHAN COUNTY COUNCIL FOLLOWING FINE GAEL SELECTION CONVENTION

Peter Conlon, eldest son of former elected representative and Carrickmacross community activist Mary Kerr- Conlon, won the seat vacated by his mother upon her recent retirement midway through the Local Authority’s current term, at a Fine Gael Selection Convention on Thursday night last in the Shirley Arms Hotel. His co-option onto Monaghan County Council will be ratified at the next meeting of the Local Authority in September, after the Summer break. It was a well-attended event and just before 10pm, Returning Officer John Lohan, confirmed that they had a result.
“I’d like to announce your next County Councillor is Peter Conlon,” Guest Chairperson Senator John McGahon said, congratulating both Peter and Pat Cassidy, the other candidate contesting the Fine Gael seat for the Carrickmacross/Castleblayney Municipal District (MD) area, where current MD Cathaoirleach, Councillor Aidan Campbell is a sitting elected representative for Fine Gael.
