Councillors demand urgent action to curb anti-social behaviour problems in Monaghan estates

“Enough is enough!” declared Sinn Féin councillor Seán Conlon at Monday’s meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District when raising the issue of serious antisocial behaviour incidents which he said were taking place in some housing estates in Monaghan Town. The MD members, after hearing allegations of drug dealing, assaults and intimidation of neighbours in the Killygoan and Mullaghmatt areas, resolved to convene a meeting of local authority, Garda and community representatives to discuss solutions to the problem.

Councillor Conlon said that anti-social behaviour was impacting a number of their communities and while it went through peaks and troughs it was very difficult for the people living in the areas where it existed. He felt that, even with the best of intentions of trying to resolve issues through tenancy guidelines and the Gardaí enforcing the law, they had let down the people of Killygoan and Mullaghmatt in this regard.
