COUNTRY FESTIVAL APPETITE STILL STRONG IN MONAGHAN – MD MEMBERS APPEAL FOR EVENT’S REVIVAL
The hope was expressed at Monday’s meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District that community and business forces would combine to spark a revival of the Monaghan Country Music Festival which was discontinued during the Covid-19 pandemic period. Independent councillor Seamus Treanor said there was big disappointment in the town that the forthcoming weekend would not see the staging of the Monaghan Country Music Festival as would have been the case in the years before the pandemic.
“I don’t think we should let another year go by without the festival,” Councillor Treanor stated, adding that he was glad to see that the Monaghan Blues Festival would take place in September. “The Country Festival put Monaghan on the map – people from as far away as Cork used to attend it,” Councillor Treanor added. Fine Gael representative David Maxwell said the revival of the event would need an organising committee.
