Hannah Potts and Louise McChesney of Monaghan Collegiate School will compete at the World Junk Kouture Final in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates later this year. The Collegiate pupils’ Queen of Cutlery creation, using metal forks, knives and spoons, was one of nine entries selected by the judges to represent Ireland at the world event when the live national Dublin City final took place on Thursday, May 5 last.

Hannah and Louise were recipients of a vote of congratulations on their achievement at Monday’s meeting of Monaghan Co Council. Junk Kouture encourages second-level school students to devise haute-couture designs using 100% recycled materials. Coverage of the final can be seen on RTÉ 2 television on Thursday May 19 next at 7 pm and will be available on the RTÉ Player.

The ten Irish designs selected to compete in the World Final (a further ‘wildcard’ finalist will be chosen in the near future) will be up against finalist from London, Paris, Milan, New York and Abu Dhabi itself. At the World Final, there will be six individual City Designer Awards for each location plus the first ever Junk Kouture World Designer of the Year accolade. Other….
