LOCAL WREATH LAYING CEREMONIES ACROSS CO. MONAGHAN
Over the Easter weekend a number of wreath laying ceremonies took place at gravesites and Republican monuments across co. monaghan organised by local Sinn féin cumainn. On Saturday evening the Co. Monaghan Easter Rising Commemorative Programme 2022 got underway with a wreath laying ceremony in Inniskeen village.
Later that evening Clontibret republicans gathered at the graveside of Vol. Peadar Mohan in the local cemetery were Monaghan County Councillor Seán Conlon laid a laurel wreath. Cllr. Conlon also addressed the turnout acknowledging the commitment not only of Peadar but also of his brother Frank, whose first anniversary occurred in February. Wreaths were also laid on the graves of Frank Mohan and Tom Green by veteran republican Brendan McKenna.
Republicans also attended that evening at the grave of the McEneaney cousins in Annyalla cemetery, whose centenary occurred last June. Former Monaghan County Councillor Jackie Crowe laid the wreath and local republican activist Paul Gibbons presided. Wreath laying ceremonies took place on Easter Sunday morning at Carrickroe, Clara and Tyholland in North Monaghan. Cllr. Cathy Bennett laid a wreath on the grave of Vol. Connie Green in Carrickroe. Addressing the turnout she said; “I am delighted to join the Republicans of the Carrickroe area of Co.
