MONAGHAN OPENS ITS DOORS TO UKRAINIAN REFUGEES
Forty refugees from the war in Ukraine arrived in Co Monaghan from Poland on Sunday morning, April 2 last. Accommodation for the refugee party, which consists of a number of families with young children and elderly persons, is being provided at present by the Monaghan Civil Defence Service. Monaghan Co Council said in a statement on Monday that it was currently co-ordinating with IPAS or the International Protection Accommodation Service in relation to the longterm accommodation needs of the group.
Monaghan Co Council has been given no direct role in providing accommodation for Ukrainian refugees arriving in the county but is available to carry out inspections and works of properties which have been offered as accommodation here, it was stated at Monday’s meeting of the local authority. 250 properties in Co Monaghan have been pledged to the Irish Red Cross as potential accommodation for displaced Ukrainian people.
