Monaghan GAA hosted their first Northern Standard-sponsored Annual Awards night since 2020 at the Four Seasons Hotel last Friday. The presentation night, sponsored once again by The Northern Standard, had to be postponed on a couple of occasions last year, with Friday’s event doubling up and seeing the 2020 and 2021 awards finally handed out.

The long-delayed event was run on a less formal basis than in previous years, but Scotstown’s Gráinne McElwain was there as usual on MC duty. The 2021 award winners included: Senior Footballer Kieran Hughes (Scotstown) Kieran Hughes hit fitness and top form at the perfect time for Scotstown as they retained the Mick Duffy Cup.

Enjoying a free role in the middle third, Hughes kicked three superb points in Scotstown’s semi-final win over Inniskeen, before matching that return in a Man-of-the- Match performance in the final. The two-time Ulster SFC winner finished the 2021 Monaghan SFC with 1-13 to his name, also earning…
