Patrician High School, Carrickmacross fell short in their bid for a second All-Ireland PPS Senior Football ‘B’ title when they lost out to a ruthless Gorey Community School side in Portarlington last Saturday. MacLarnon Cup winners Patrician were always playing catch-up after falling six points down in the opening quarter, as a powerful start sent Gorey CS on their way to their first Paddy Drummond Cup.
The High School were much improved in the second half as they attempted to wipe out a nine-point deficit, but despite enjoying plenty of possession, they had left too much work to do to match the class of 1997. Gorey had the wind at their backs in the first half and they made a dream start with a half-dozen unanswered scores.
Jack Higgins got the Wexford side motoring at the end of a strong run, before a counter-attack saw Cian Hughes surge forward to set up J.J. Twamley to double their lead. After a delayed kick-out led to a throw-up on the Patrician 21-metre line, Twamley added his second…
