‘BLAYNEY TO HOST COVID REMEMBRANCE EVENT

A remembrance and recognition event in memory of those who lost their lives during the Coviid-19 pandemic will take place at St Mary’s Hospital in Castleblayney on Friday, March 18 at 11 am. The event will also recognise the efforts made by frontline workers and the voluntary sector during the pandemic. details of the event were provided at last Monday’s meeting of Monaghan Co Council, when Cathaoirleach aidan Campbell (Fine Gael) stated that the event would take place at the Famine graveyard at St Mary’s. It would involve a number of church representatives an there would be a wreath-laying and the lighting of candles to remember those who had passed away over the period of the pandemic, the Cathaoirleach stated.

Sinn Féin’s Seán Conlon described the event as very important and requested that an imam from the Muslim community be among the church representatives in attendance at the event. Councillor Conlon remarked on the substantial contribution made by members of the Muslim community as frontline healthcare workers during the Covid-19 period.
