NATIONWIDE TURNS SPOTLIGHT ON COUNTY MONAGHAN

RTÉ 1’s popular magazine programme Nationwide is turning its spotlight on Co Monaghan throughout next week. Each of the programme’s three editions – on Monday, Wednesday and Friday following the mid-evening news – will have a Co Monaghan theme. “This is such a huge boost for Monaghan, and it’s unprecedented to have an entire Nationwide week devoted to one county,” stated Liz McGuinness, the businesswoman whose Mad About Monaghan promotional initiative has supplied a major impetus for the programming decision.

Liz told the Northern Standard yesterday that the Mad About Monaghan campaign, initiated during the Covid-19 lockdown with no funding, grant aid or Government support, “has generated so much economic benefit to the county since July last year that it is a real story in itself.” Liz cited the unprecedented number of visitors who chose to make Monaghan their staycation holiday destination in 2001 as proof of the efficacy of her marketing drive.
