STORMS BRING MONAGHAN TOWN FLOODING ISSUES BACK TO THE FORE

The intensive rainfall associated with the rapid traverse of Ireland by Storms Dudley, Eunice and Franklyn last weekend has brought flooding issues in the centre of Monaghan Town back to the fore of local political discourse. Two emergency motions were brought before Monday morning’s meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District – one by the Sinn Féin members of the local authority body and the other by Independent local public representative Paudge Connolly – calling for flood mitigation drainage works to be carried out to alleviate the problem, which caused considerable traffic disruption in the town centre at the height of the weekend rainfall.
