MONAGHAN CO COUNCIL GETS €2.5 MILLION TO DEVELOP WALKING AND CYCLING ROUTES
An allocation in excess of €2.5 million for the development of walking and cycling infrastructure in Co Monaghan was announced this week. The funding for Monaghan Co Council was announced by Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan TD on Monday in a high-profile media event further underscoring the Green Party influence on the Government’s transport investment policies. €200,000 is to be spent upgrading the Monaghan Town Greenway, with a further €100,000 allocated to the upgrade of the Greenway along the N2. €56,000 is also included in the funding package for the Dublin Street Regeneration Plan in Monaghan Town.
There is also €120,000 for street-lighting projects in Ballybay, Clones and Smithboro, and money for footpath improvements in a number of Co Monaghan locations including Ballybay, Rockcorry, Clones, Smithboro, Castleblayney, Carrickmacross and Scotstown. The National Transport Authority funding is part of a €280 million national investment. Cavan County Council will receive €3,371,445.
