• Professional boxing brothers in arms Aaron and Stevie McKenna visited Monaghan’s Beech Hill College this week to speak to students about their experience of life in the pro fight game. Aaron brought along the WBC Youth World Welterweight title belt he won on Friday in a unanimous decision at Crystal Palace over Carlos Gallego, with the 22-year-old ‘Silencer’ awarded all eight rounds by the three ringside judges. It was Aaron’s 14th professional victory in a row. On the same card older brother Stevie (24) dispatched English challenger Jack Ewbank in just 70 seconds for his 11th straight pro win. Aaron said after taking the junior crown: “This is what I’ve been dreaming of since I started, winning titles, now next I want bigger and better ones. This is just the start of the journey – it’s not the end.” The Monaghan brothers, trained by their father Fergal, have an exciting 2022 in prospect with promoter Mick Hennessy planning some Irish shows to bring the brothers into closer contact with their burgeoning home fan base.
