Scotstown are the only team with a 100% record in this year’s Senior Football Championship group stage after they sent out a statement of intent away to Inniskeen last Sunday. Both teams took an unbeaten record into this one, with Inniskeen looking to leapfrog the holders at the top of the group, but 1- 7 without reply in a 15-minute spell either side of half-time, despite an injury to the influential Kieran Hughes, saw Scotstown send a message to the chasing pack.

Inniskeen may have been looking at this game to benchmark their progress after last year’s run to the semi-finals, but with Dónal Meegan (with 0-17 to his name to date) and Seán Jones (who had hit 1-5 from play in a game and a half) being held scoreless, their challenge didn’t get off the ground. Having kicked just 13 points in seeing off Carrickmacross in the previous round, Scotstown went within a point of matching that tally in the first half, before Darren Hughes hit the net to end the game as a contest.

After a scoreless opening seven minutes during which Conor McCarthy went close to an early goal, Scotstown opened their account when Rory Beggan got involved….
