JUSTICE MINISTER LEADS TRIBUTES FOLLOWING SUDDEN PASSING OF JUDGE DENIS MCLOUGHLIN

Minister for Justice Heather Humphreys TD has paid tribute to the late Judge Denis McLoughlin as “a consistent example of our judiciary at its compassionate and considered best.” Judge McLoughlin’s sudden death on Thursday, September 23 last at the age of 62 evinced great shock and sorrow in legal and wider circles in Co Monaghan. He had served as the permanent District Court Judge for the District Court No 5 area of Monaghan and Cavan since 2015, taking up the position following the retirement of Judge Seán MacBride. A native of Drogheda, he was appointed to the bench in 2007 following a 22-year career as a solicitor, operating a practice in Balbriggan in Dublin.

Judge McLoughlin is survived by his wife Maire and sons Seán, Adam and Ross, and by brother Eric and sisters Julie and Margaret. His Funeral Mass took place at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Drogheda on Monday afternoon. In her tribute, Minister Humphreys stated: “Judge McLoughlin has given many years of dedicated service to the people of Cavan and Monaghan and I was greatly saddened to hear of his passing. “In his fair and considered manner, Judge McLoughlin was a consistent example of our judiciary at its compassionate and considered best.
