EIRGRID PLANS TO HAVE “BOOTS ON THE GROUND” FOR INTERCONNECTOR CONSTRUCTION BY LATE 2022

It’s anticipated that main construction works on the North South interconnector project will commence in the latter half of 2022, according to the Eir- Grid Chief Executive Mark Foley. He made the observation in a letter to Monaghan County Council. A claim in Mr Foley’s correspondence – discussed by the Council at its meeting on Monday last – that EirGrid had established “good relationships” with many of the landowners along the route of the proposed project was rejected by some of the Council’s elected members.

Acting Co Council Chief Executive Paul Clifford informed Monday’s meeting that on August 3rd last the Co Council had received correspondence from ESB Networks stating that they intended to carry out ground investigation works for the location of pylons which would inform their conservation, environmental management and traffic management plans in relation to the interconnector project.
