MONAGHAN TURN FOCUS TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP AND A FAMILIAR ARMAGH OUTFIT

Monaghan v Armagh, yet again. The 2021 inter-county action didn’t begin until May, but these neighbouring counties have already met in four different senior competitions, with another two to follow by Saturday week. This All-Ireland SFC Group A opener is a third meeting of these ladies’ teams in the space of just six weeks and it’s their fourth clash since Armagh won the Ulster title last December. Monaghan pipped Armagh at the Athletic Grounds in the league at the end of May, but when they met again last month, a much-changed side fell to a heavy defeat.

There may well have been eyes on this encounter even at that stage, but this game demands full focus, with the top two in the group set to advance to the quarter-final stage. Armagh went all the way to the All-Ireland semi-finals last winter and they will be hoping to replicate that sort of form this summer.
