SLIABH BEAGH WILDFIRE MANAGEMENT PLAN

18 June 2021 No Comments by The Northern Standard

A wildfire management plan for Sliabh Beagh is currently being developed by the CANN (Collaborative Action for the Natura Network) Project. This is funded by the EU’s INTERREG VA Programme, through the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB). The aim is to prevent a repeat of incidents, such as the fire in 2017 when over 700ha of land was destroyed including important habitat, plants and animal species. The fire safety management plan will include the arrangements for implementing, controlling, monitoring, and reviewing fire safety standards and ensuring that the standards are maintained in the Sliabh Beagh area.

Pau Costa Foundation which has expertise in Wildfire Management are assisting the CANN Project in producing this document that will help to define how fires spread currently and model how they may spread in the future…
