Monaghan ready to face the Kingdom

There’s a significant change of scenery for the Monaghan ladies this Saturday, as they travel to Mountbellew-Moylough in Galway to take on Kerry in the Lidl NFL Division Two semi-finals. A claustrophobic all-Ulster Division 2B group went down to the wire, with many of the games being decided by narrow margins, but Monaghan bucked that trend with a comprehensive win over Tyrone last Sunday that confidently secured their place as runners-up behind Cavan, who continued their strong start under Gerry Moane by pipping Armagh.

Having bounced back from losing on home soil against Cavan, Monaghan edged out Armagh in round two and they wasted no time in securing the win they needed against a shell-shocked Tyrone side. Having powered into a 2-5 to 0-1 lead after just ten minutes, Monaghan kept their foot on the pedal in the second quarter to double their tally to 4-10 by halftime.

Each goal was marked with real quality, not least the fourth, which saw Ellen Mc- Carron fire home at the end of a flowing end-to-end move. Such was Monaghan’s cushion that they could afford to withdraw the likes…
