PRESIDENTIAL PRAISE FOR COOTEHILL AUTHOR’S BOOK

President Michael D Higgins has expressed his praise for a bestselling book by Cootehill author, campaigner, and charity founder Ruairí McKiernan, saying that the volume – Hitching for Hope – A Journey into the Heart and Soul of Ireland – “offers hope” during these turbulent times. President Higgins says the book “is in the fine tradition of a search for what is most valuable in the different spaces of Ireland and how they might help us craft a new way forward together.”

He says it is “empathic in approach, well written, and crucially, it offers hope.” Hitching for Hope is published internationally by US publisher Chelsea Green. It is described as ‘part memoir, part travel adventure, and part manifesto for hope and healing during troubled times’. Other notable fans of the book include Christy Moore, Damien Dempsey, Patricia Scanlan, Frances Black and Peggy Seeger.
