Farney let lead slip as focus turns to division 1 survival

Monaghan salvaged a late draw with Tyrone in a typically tense Ulster derby in Omagh last Saturday evening as the Allianz National Football League Division One North went down to the wire. Having been fortunate to change ends trailing by just three points, Monaghan were much improved after the restart and they looked likely for long stages of the second half to claim that long-awaited win.

Tyrone rallied strongly, however, and in the end, it took a last-gasp Ryan McAnespie point to earn Monaghan a share of the spoils that wasn’t enough to escape the bottom two in the group. Monaghan’s only change from the highscoring draw with Donegal a week earlier saw Conor McManus make his first start of 2021 and he led their attack with six points, while there were also big performances from McAnespie, Conor Boyle, Stephen O’Hanlon and sub Dessie Ward.
