One of the founders of the Bealtaine Festival which celebrates the artistic and creative abilities of older people, Mamo McDonald of Clones, made an integral contribution to the festival’s celebration at St Anne’s Nursing Home in Ballybay on Friday last. A former national president on the ICA, Mamo joined with Age and Opportunity CEO Catherine Rose 26 years ago to initiate the very first Bealtaine programme, and has participated in the festival every year since then. On Friday last Mamo joined her fellow residents of St Anne’s to keep the tradition going, reading some of the poems from her collection Circling. Musical performances and a display of the artwork produced by the St Anne’s residents also formed part of the celebrations.
