FUNDING SECURED FOR WETLANDS CONSERVATION AND INVASIVE SPECIES CONTROL IN CO MONAGHAN

Funding announced this week will contribute to the conservation and restoration of wetlands and the control of invasive species in Co Monaghan. The money is being provided under a biodiversity grant scheme for local authorities. In Co Monaghan, €15,980 has been secured for an Invasive Species Management Plan for Rossmore Forest Park in Monaghan Town.

The plan will focus on the long-term management and control of a number of invasive species identified at the increasingly popular amenity. €15,725 is being allocated to identify wetlands from the county’s database of 711 sites on which conservation works to improve biodiversity outcomes and climate mitigation or adaptation can be undertaken. There is an additional €11,675 for the establishment of a Monaghan Wetlands Network in partnership with the Community Wetlands Forum.

The project will encourage public engagement with the conservation and restoration of wetlands sites.
