There has been widespread condemnation of the dumping of around 35 carcases of dead lambs in the scenic Sliabh Beagh area of North Monaghan. The dead animals were discovered along the popular Esh walking trail near Poll an Aifrinn in the area on Wednesday of last week when local people alerted Monaghan Co Council, who put in place an operation to have the carcases removed from the area. The Co Council said that the lambs were dumped in twos and threes every 20-30 metres for a distance of approximately a kilometre. Some of the carcases were discovered hanging on bushes and trees while others were deposited at the bottom of ditches. The Co Council confirmed this week that it was also investigating an incident in which four dead calves were found dumped near a small river in a separate part of the Sliabh Beagh area.
