Saturday evening involving the Coastguard rescue helicopter had a happy ending when a missing youth was found safe and well. A call went out on social media to people to keep a look out for a 14 year-old who had been reported missing. A number of local people travelled to the Knockballyroney area close to Bragan mountain to help with the search. The girl went missing in the area close to the car park opposite the path leading to the Mass Rock at Poll an Aifrinn. Gardaí appealed for help in tracing the teenager and search parties were organised in the area. The Coast Guard Sikorsky helicopter arrived from Dublin at 9:00pm to assist in tracking the girl and made a number of loops over the area. It was about to start scanning the area at the entrance to the forest at the car park when word came through that the girl had been located in a field by two searchers. The helicopter was stood down and returned to base around 10:00pm just as darkness enveloped the area. Gardaí later confirmed that the teenager was safe and well. Thanks goes out to all who volunteered to help or provided refreshments for the searchers.
