Monaghan will have to make winning start at neutral venue

Colm Shalvey reports

on the eve of an Allianz National Football League campaign with a difference, Monaghan already face a big game against Armagh in Enniskillen this Sunday. in 2017, 2018 and 2019, Monaghan were preparing to enter the championship on the third weekend in May, with at least ten games under their belts via the Dr. Mckenna Cup and a full league campaign, but the condensed 2021 season means that points in Sunday’s opening-round fixture could have a major bearing on the weeks ahead. Part of the county’s punishment for last month’s breach of the training ban is the loss of home advantage for the first game, although the leagues will be played behind closed doors, while manager Séamus McEnaney is serving a 12-week suspension that will see his back-room team take charge from the sideline throughout the league, although it remains to be confirmed…..
