REMODELLED TOWN AND VILLAGE RENEWAL SCHEME OFFERS RURAL DEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL TO CO MONAGHAN SAYS MINISTER

€15 million in funding to help rural towns and villages revitalise in the post-Covid-19 period was announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys this week. The funding is for an updated and enhanced Town and Village Renewal Scheme, a funding stream that has already benefited Co Monaghan to a significant extent.

Minister Humphreys said the new scheme was “designed to breathe new life into rural communities – making them more attractive places to live, work, socialise and raise a family.” The Cavan/Monaghan TD said the initiative was a key part of the Government’s Our Rural Future strategy. Among its objectives are tackling dereliction in town centres and turning vacant properties into remote working and community spaces.

Local authorities will be supported in the running of innovative marketing campaigns targeted at attracting remote workers to their county. The scheme will also provide investment for green spaces, parks and recreational amenities; upgrading and improving shop fronts and streetscapes on main streets and projects that support and enhance the night…
