MONAGHAN VACCINATION CENTRE BECOMES OPERATIONAL AS COVID-19 NUMBERS IN COUNTY CLIMB AGAIN

The Covid-19 vaccination centre located at the Hillgrove Hotel in Monaghan Town became fully operational on Friday last. The Monaghan centre, and that located at the Hotel Kilmore in Cavan which also went “public facing” on Friday, were extremely busy over the first days after opening, the HSE reported. In Co. Monaghan the number of Covid-19 cases reported on Monday was 13. This brings the total since the start of the pandemic last year to just over 5000 (5006). The incidence rate per 100,000 population over fourteen days has been rising, and at the start of the week, the rate was 81.5 (compared to a national average of 122.5) and Monaghan had climbed up the table to 16th out of 26 counties.

VACCINATION ON TARGET

Taoiseach Micheál Martin said this week that the HSE remained on target to vaccinate 450,000 people each week by mid- June and reach overall targets for the population once vaccine supply continued to arrive in an orderly manner. Speaking in the Dáil, Mr Martin said that 27.5% of the population had received one dose of vaccine to date and 10.9% had now received a second dose. The Taoiseach said that 191,800 vaccines Pfizer vaccines arrived in the country on Wednesday, one of the largest volumes to arrive to date. Mr Martin said that there was “no menu of vaccines to choose from” as there was not enough volume to offer choice, but the HSE was working to implement the National….
