A new distribution centre has been launched in Cootehill which has set the target of facilitating a million parcel deliveries across Monaghan and Cavan this year. Cavan/Monaghan TD and Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys performed the official opening of the DPD Ireland facility on Monday.

The new 15,000 sq ft development will combine the services delivered from the company’s former locations in Cavan and Monaghan. DPD said it had experienced a huge increase in demand for its services during the Covid-19 pandemic. Minister Humphreys said the development represented “another vote of confidence in Cootehill”. She commended DPD Ireland for “their vision, ambition and success”.

“This welcome investment demonstrates DPD Ireland’s strong commitment to Co Cavan and indeed the wider Border region,” the Minister told Monday’s launch event. “As a significant employer in Ireland, DPD Ireland had to quickly adapt following the onset of Covid-19 to ensure its customers were well served.” DPD Chief Executive Des Travers described the new facility as part of DPD’s “ongoing investment in the company’s infrastructure, to meet demand caused by the pandemic, and help us continue to deliver a firstclass service to businesses….
