DRIVE TO GET MORE PEOPLE VACCINATED AS COVID CASES IN MONAGHAN DECLINE

The number of Covid cases in County Monaghan has continued to decline steadily, with no new cases being reported on Monday, when the figures are usually lower than in midweek. Meanwhile the HSE vaccination centre for the county situated at the Hillgrove Hotel in Monaghan town has received its first clients for injections.

It opened on Tuesday and yesterday to cater for some priority groups, namely those from non-designated centres and also to give vaccinations to priority healthcare workers. The HSE says a recruitment process is now underway to recruit a dedicated workforce for the centre such as an operational manager, vaccinators, administration staff and a pharmacist.

On Tuesday the Covid-19 incidence rate per 100,000 of population over a fourteen day period had dropped to 105.9, below the national average. Monaghan, which had topped the table during most of January and some of February is now sixteenth out of the 26 counties, showing a noticeable improvement.
