Sight loss won’t stop Lough Egish brothers supporting from supporting free regional counselling centre

The Ward brothers from Lough Egish launched a fundraising drive in January, which involved running 300 kilometres. What is so interesting about this is that two of the three brothers who are undertaking this fitness challenge have experienced lifealtering sight loss, but the fundraiser is for SOSAD, not a sight loss charity, as one might expect. Breandán Ward was very open about having sought counselling with SOSAD because he found his sight loss hard to accept. Both himself and Tony have a genetic condition that causes their vision to deteriorate over time.

Their other brother Ciarán is not vision impaired but he works in Maynooth University and champions accessibility and inclusivity there. In addition to supporting his brothers in fundraising for a local worthy cause, he wanted to remind students that there is help out there because lockdown…
