MONAGHAN WOMAN’S KITCHEN DISCO RAISES ALMOST €6,000 FOR ALZHEIMER’S RESEARCH

A Monaghan townswoman now working as a doctor in Glasgow has raised almost €6,000 for alzheimer’s research through a fun and innovative fund-raising idea. Sinead McAree didn’t want to let her 50th birthday pass without marking it in some conspicuous fashion despite it being spent in lockdown. So she decided to stage her onewoman 24-hour kitchen disco as a means of fund-raising for an important cause.

Sinead disco-danced for 24 hours, with a five-minute break each hour (“To go to the loo, change my socks and have a wee cry once or twice!” as she recalled to the Northern Standard this week) with family and friends joining her via Zoom to encourage her and even take part in a boogie themselves. “What I thought might be a very quiet turning of the decade has turned into my best birthday ever,” Sinead said, expressing appreciation to all….
