“It’s a project that has been close to may heart since my days on Monaghan County Council.” A delighted Minister Heather Humphreys announced government approval of €6 million towards the restoration of the Ulster Canal between Clones and Lough Erne on Friday. The Minister for Rural and Community Development hailed it as an ‘historic day’ for Clones as the green light was given to the commencement of restoration works between Clones and Clonfad in Co. Monaghan, on the border with Co. Fermanagh near Wattlebridge. The works which will be complemented by a canal basin marina and amenity area in Clones near the Ulster Canal Stores are due to be….
