TOWN VOUCHER SALES HIT €600,000, MUNICIPAL DISTRICT TOLD

Monaghan people were embracing the ‘Stay Local, Shop Local’ message as the crucial weeks of the Christmas holiday trading period commenced, Monday’s meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District was told. Sales of the Monaghan Town Voucher in the November/ December period to date had reached €600,000, with Monaghan Shopping Centre selling €11,000 worth of vouchers during the first four days of the more liberal trading activity heralded by the easing of the Covid-19 restrictions, Monaghan Business Support Executive Siobhan Sherry informed the meeting. Ms Sherry said the sales of the voucher were close to the level experienced 12 months previously, “which is a good sign in the year that we are in”.

More local businesses had come on board with the voucher scheme and some had made significant purchases, she pointed out. The Business Support Executive looked ahead to 2021 and a gradual return to trading normality as the Covid-19 vaccine was made available and more widely disseminated, expressing the hope that events and gatherings could resume in the town once again. They had been very limited in what they could do this year….
