Members of Three Councils Say ‘No Pylons’

Michael Fisher Three Fianna Fáil Councillors from Monaghan, Cavan, and Meath have joined together to call on the government to direct EirGrid to cease all works immediately on the proposed North-South interconnector. They are calling for the full implementation of the Fianna Fáil motion of Feburary 2017 as adopted by Dáil and Seanad Éireann to commission an independent report incorporating international industry expertise to examine the technical feasibility and cost of undergrounding the planned 400kV high voltage overhead line with over 400 pylons.

The elected representatives from neighbouring counties met at an area known locally as the Diamond on the Magheracloone border with Kingscourt, where they were pictured by Northern Standard photographer Pat Byrne (see page 2). They held aloft placards expressing their opposition to the pylons plan and calling on Eir- Grid to ‘do the right thing and put the cables underground’.
