€1.48 MILLION IN ACTIVE TRAVEL AND CLIMATE CHANGE FUNDING FOR MONAGHAN COUNTY COUNCIL

Monaghan Co Council is to receive a total of €1.48 million in funding under the Government’s Active Travel Measures and Climate Change Adaptation Measures schemes, it was announced this week. A total of €310,000 is being allocated to the local authority for works to alleviate the impact of climate change. €1.72 million is being made available for ten transport-related projects (see details below).

Fine Gael TD for Cavan/Monaghan and Minister for Social Protection, Community and Rural Development and the Islands Heather Humphreys said that the funding news would be welcomed by the communities that would benefit. Minister Humphreys described the Active Travel grant scheme as a very positive initiative. “It will see communities benefiting from improved and more accessible walking and cycling infrastructure as well as stimulating local employment,” the Minister stated, “and go a long way to improve people’s travel experience.
