NEW SCHOOL ERA DAWNS BUT FIRST DAY EXCITEMENT REMAINS UNDIMMED

The “school around the corner” may not be “just the same” as the old song says as places of education begin to reopen in the Covid-19 environment, but the excitement of one’s first day at school seems, on the evidence of Northern Standard photographer Rory Geary’s image, to remain undiminished.

Pictured is Andrew Berry who started school on Wednesday with his big sister Annie to guide him on his first steps as a Latnamard National School pupil, his parents in the background to lend solidarity and support and Acting Principal Imelda Howell on hand to provide the warmest and most reassuring of welcomes. The reopening of primary and second level schools across Co Monaghan this week and next has been accompanied by intensive preparations and considerable expenditure to ensure that pupils and staff are kept as safe as possible…
