McGuinness saves the day as Ballybay bravely battle back for hard-earned draw

Ballybay staged a strong recovery in the dying embers of this Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship contest in Pearse Park last Sunday that saw them finishing level with the County champions, which gives each of them a point apiece in this round-robin section of the competition. Earlier it looked as if Ballybay could actually overturn the champions in that they started with a flourish to lead by four points at the end of the opening quarter and that same margin separated the sides at the break, with Ballybay definitely holding the upper hand.

In the second-half Clontibret came more into the game and gradually chipped away at Ballybay’s lead to draw level at 1-7 apiece at the end of the third quarter and then going on to take a two points lead with five minutes of normal time remaining. The stopwatch was just about going into injury time at the end of the second-half when Ballybay manufactured equalising points and while each side had a late chance that could have snatched victory, a…
