MONAGHAN FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS SET FOR LONG-AWAITED START SATURDAY

The long-awaited start of the club football championships is almost with us, with 12 Senior, Intermediate and Junior games down for decision this weekend. In a year like no other, the ‘new normal’ continues to pose challenges to clubs, particularly the limits on supporters attending the games, but for now there is a prevailing sense of relief that the focus can finally turn to the on-field action, with a host of intriguing pairings on the agenda for week one.

The stand-out fixture on Saturday evening (and the one that will be most affected by the restricted crowd numbers) sees Scotstown and Truagh help get the Greenfield Foods SFC underway. Scotstown needed a penalty shoot-out to get past Truagh last year on their way to another county final, where their five-in-a-row bid was, of course, ended by Clontibret. There…
