CLÁR FUNDING OPPORTUNITY FOR SLIABH BEAGH SHOULD BE EXPLORED – COUNCILLOR BENNETT

Sinn Féin councillor Cathy Bennett urged at the June meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District that the possibility of funding under the CLÁR programme for development projects in the Sliabh Beagh area be explored. CLÁR (Ceantair Laga Árd- Riachtanais) is a Government investment programme to aid small-scale infrastructure projects in disadvantaged rural areas.

At the meeting, Councillor Bennett expressed disappointment that the programme was not available to areas such as Scotstown, Ballinode and Drumsnatt which she believed needed it, and urged that an approach be made for CLÁR funding for the Sliabh Beagh area where a development master plan had been prepared which she did not want to be “sitting on the shelf”. Councillor Bennett said there were many projects in the master plan that would be worthy of such funding.
