MONAGHAN MUNICIPAL DISTRICT TO REVIEW PAY PARKING SUSPENSION IN COMING MONTHS

• CONCERN OVER LACK OF FUNDING FOR LOCAL PROJECTS

Monaghan Municipal District is to review in the coming months the current suspension of the pay parking system in Monaghan Town which was introduced during the early phase of Covid-19 public health restriction measures. Revenue from pay parking supplies vital funding arteries for the MD and concern was voiced at the authority’s June meeting on Tuesday morning that the reduction in income from this source would have a significant negative impact on local works and projects. Reference was made during the discussion to calls from local businesses for the suspension of pay parking to be extended until the end of the year.

It was also pointed out that decisions in relation to the continued suspension or reintroduction of pay parking were ones made at local authority executive level and did not require the approval of the elected members of the Municipal District or Co Council.
