DETAILS OF COVID-19 DEATHS IN LONG-TERM RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES OUTLINED BY HSE

121 of the 1,030 deaths in ireland associated with outbreaks of covid-19 in long-term care residential facilities for older persons occurred in facilities in cHo or community Health care organisation 1 which covers counties monaghan, cavan, donegal, leitrim and Sligo, the HSE has confirmed. Twenty Covid-19 deaths took place in three HSE facilities in the CHO area: Virginia Community Nursing Unit in Co Cavan, The Rock Community Nursing Unit in Ballyshannon, Co Donegal and Co Donegal’s Killybegs Community Hospital.

The HSE offered deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the bereaved, going on to state in a media release: “There have been a large number of outbreaks of Covid- 19 across older persons’ residential services in Ireland. In CHO 1 our Covid-19 Outbreak Control Team actively manages all outbreaks within residential settings, older persons, disability and mental health. Each facility continues….
