Gardaí investigating the disappearance of a man last seen in Clones, Co. Monaghan eighteen years ago have confirmed that the man’s car has been located in Upper Lough Erne near Lisnaskea in Co. Fermanagh. The discovery of the vehicle is a significant breakthrough in the search that was renewed earlier this year for 55 year-old Michael ‘Tony’ Lynch. The last known sighting of Mr Lynch was at Fermanagh Street in Clones around 6:00pm on Sunday 6th January, 2002.

The father of four came originally from Magheraveely, Co Fermanagh, a few miles from Clones. He had moved from the family home to a flat in Clones two months before he went missing. Mr Lynch was working in Cavan at the time and when he failed to turn up for work his family became concerned and reported him missing. His car, a white Mitsubishi Galant registration number TIL 4670, also disappeared at that time.

Gardaí have confirmed that on Monday divers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland recovered the vehicle close to the shoreline at Corradillar jetty near the Lady Craigavon bridge…
