HEALTH AND SAFETY CONCERNS PROMPT CANCELLATION OF 2020 MONAGHAN COUNTRY FESTIVAL

The organisers of the Monaghan Country Music Festival this week announced the cancellation of the 2020 event due to health and safety concerns arising from the Covid-19 national medical emergency. Although widely anticipated, the formal cancellation announcement will disappoint the large group of patrons from across Ireland and abroad who have habituated the four-day celebration of the country music genre since its inception, helping to establish it as an Irish summer festival highlight.

The voluntary organising committee in a statement on social media said that it was “with a heavy heart” that they had taken the decision to cancel the open-air festival that had been due to take place in the centre of Monaghan Town over the third week of July. “ The decision was taken for the health and safety of the festival volunteers, the festival lineup and the festival attendees,” the organisers stated. “It has been an honour and a privilege after each of the past six successful festivals to announce and donate a large sum of money to many local charities and good causes.” The statement concluded on an upbeat note: “Take care everyone and we’ll see you in Monaghan Town next summer.”
