A man who drove through a Garda checkpoint in operation at Moybridge on Tuesday in relation to the enforcement of Covid- 19 restrictions was subsequently arrested by the PSNI. The 54-year-old was detained a short distance on the Northern side of the checkpoint on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

The Gardaí said the man drove through the checkpoint after they attempted to engage with him. “Gardaí were there to engage, explain and encourage adherence to Covid-19 guidelines,” a spokesperson stated, describing Tuesday’s operation as “a co-ordinated cross-Border checkpoint” and pointing out that the Gardaí were working closely with the PSNI to stop the spread of the Coronavirus.
