DEPUTY CARTHY REITERATES SF CALL FOR SUPPORT FOR CROSS-BORDER WORKERS

Cavan/Monaghan Sinn Féin TD Matt Carthy has reiterated his party’s call on the Government to provide a solution to the problems in accessing supports being experienced during the Covid-19 public health emergency by workers who live in the North but work in this State.

Deputy Carthy said in a statement: “It is wholly unfair and discriminatory that some workers who have contributed to the economic development of this State and who have paid their taxes and PRSI contributions to the Government’s coffers have been denied financial support through the Pandemic Unemployment Payment scheme. And it’s unacceptable that, weeks into this crisis, no solution has been offered to extend pandemic unemployment benefits to workers living in the North.
