FIRST COVID-19 CASE CONFIRMED IN CO. MONAGHAN “STAY HOME IF POSSIBLE” – VARADKAR

Unprecedented actions in response to an unprecedented emergency. This is how the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar described the latest restrictions decided by the government at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday to tackle the coronavirus emergency. They include the closure of non-essential retail outlets and new powers for Gardaí to monitor physical distancing in public spaces.

People are being advised to stay at home if possible and operate remotely, unless their presence at work is essential. It was later revealed by the Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan that the number of cases of the virus had increased steadily over the past week.

It is now known that there is at least one case in Co. Monaghan. But the County remains among seven in the Republic where there have been less than five outbreaks. Testing for Covid-19 has now begun by appointment only at a drivethrough centre that has been established at the GAA county training grounds at Cloghan…
