NEW POST-BREXIT THREAT LOOMS AS… BORDER FARMERS’ FEAR THEY COULD FACE ‘CATTLE-CULL’ THREAT

FARMERS on both sides of the Monaghan/Armagh border have been alerted this week by their counterparts, on the North Louth/South Armagh frontier, of a major new post-Brexit threat looming, which could result in some large-herd owners being forced to cull cattle and reduce the size of their herds, in an effort to eliminate entry to the Republic of brucellosis which, it is feared, would terminate Ireland’s allimportant brucellosis-free status.
Evidence of the possible likelihood of such action has emerged, causing serious concern for a number of farmers in North Louth, with one land-owner, Mr. Henry McElroy, who resides at Mounthill, Crossmaglen…
