The Sunday Mass at St Dympna’s Church in Tydavnet was a special occasion for the oldest parishioner, Maggie McQuillan.

It’s not often you find a Parish Priest leading the congregation in singing ‘Happy Birthday’, but it was a very appropriate gesture by Fr Stephen Joyce in marking the centenary of Maggie McQuillan from Tullygoney, who sat near the altar along with family members.

Not since Pat Treanor from Doogary (who passed away in 2015) celebrated his centenary eight years ago has there been such excitement locally.

Following Mass, the community in Tydavnet came out in numbers to mark this great milestone at a reception at the community centre. On the day of Maggie’s birthday last Thursday, the family had gathered at St Dympna’s…
