Enhancement works to Rossmore Forest Park in Monaghan Town under the Outdoor Recreational Infrastructure Fund should be substantially complete by the end of next month, Coordinator Donal McElwain informed the members of the Monaghan Municipal District at their meeting on Monday.

Mr McElwain said that a contractor had been appointed and the works were progressing to programme. The car-park was to remain partially open during the works to facilitate public access to the amenity, with the exception of one week when the park would be closed to enable work at the entrance to be completed.

Independent councillor Paudge Connolly said it was great to see the development works progressing at the park. Footfall was increasing at the amenity, and he welcomed the new giant sculpture that had recently been installed. “Rossmore Park is proving to be a great attraction in the town,” Councillor Connolly observed.

Cathaoirleach Seán Conlon (Sinn Féin) noted that the play park development at Rossmore had won a silver award in the Best Public Park category at the LAMA or Local Authority Members Association awards last weekend. Councillor Connolly said the park would be in a great position to attract even more visitors when the current works were completed.
